I-ke-seen

I-ke-seen is what the girls call ice cream and like any normal 2 1/2 year old, they both love it. I, however, have recently discovered how much of a lame mom I am, especially with food. I don't want to eat things like spaghetti, things with condiments, or things with other "messy" parts to it. I see all these pictures of kids covered in food and it makes me shiver. The mess. The {potential} smell. The clean up. I hate it all. Remember when this happened last year? It made for some cute photos, but that was definitely a one time thing and I vividly remember that bath and that I was kicking myself for letting them go crazy with the pudding. I just hate messy food.

Because of this, the girls have only had ice cream three times that I can recall. Pathetic, right? It's ice cream. I probably shouldn't admit that, but it's true. And my reasoning aren't even that it's full of sugar and unhealthy. I just hate that it's messy. I'm ridiculous.

Anyway... The girls have both been incredibly sick this week. The doctor said to just let their cold/cough take it's course but does he understand how good in "theory" that advice is? Has he ever tried to entertain two miserable, sleepless toddlers in a house before? We've hardly gotten dressed this week (even more so than normal) and the television has been on entirely too much. So, when Josh headed to work last night, he wanted to leave the girls on a good note, so what did he do? He pulled out our ice cream and cones and let the girls go to town. I had to swallow my anti-sticky/slimy pride and just let the kids be kids. They quite enjoyed it. It was the happiest I've seen them in 4 days. Yay for awesome dads!!

And just like that

I put a stop to the i-ke-seen fun.

It was great while it lasted and we didn't have too hard of a clean up. The girls happily played in the bath for over an hour and I was able to organize some clothes that I've been meaning to get to for days weeks. Last night was a sweet reminder that I won't always have miserable children. There is a light to the end of this nasty, coughing tunnel.

And although one would assume that Lillian would be pretty ticked off  that "Fo-see got you!" she was actually laughing really, really hard.

I love these two more and more each day.

p.s. who's ready for spring and summer so I can have better pictures? I was organizing and looking through older pictures the other day and it's amazing what a little good natural light does for a photograph. We're running low on that 'round these parts, except for a few hours in the late afternoon. It makes me sad.

A whole bunch of sickies.

Sophie and I spent some time at Instacare last night. I debated whether to take her in all day, but we finally decided to go. Turns out she's got a double ear infection and pink eye. Yuck. I couldn't get her medicine until this morning, which means she'll be contagious until tomorrow morning, so we've been trying our best to keep the girls separated. Do you know how hard that is? Let me tell you...

Every time I've given Sophie some of her medicine (ear drops, eye drops and an oral antibiotic ($88 worth of drugs, thank you very much) Lillian freaks out. She comes up and starts hitting me because she doesn't like to see her sister like that and I think she's afraid that she's next. Maybe I just don't notice how they're always playing with or next to each other, but it seems like this morning, they especially want to be by their sis. And I'm freaking out because they play with all of the same toys, so Sophie's germs are probably covering everything. I've sprayed down what I could, but I'm still freaking out about it. This is gross guys, really gross. We've got about 23 hours until Sophie isn't contagious anymore and then I'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief. It's almost tempting to just let them play together because it seems that Lillian is bound to get it too, but seeing how miserable Sophie is and knowing that we'd spend another $88 on medicine for Lillian, I have to at least try to keep her healthy. So for now, I spiked Lillian's sippy cup with Kick Ass Immune drops and am hoping for the best. Oh and Josh is sick too. Cold chills, sweats, sore throat, etc. Our house is a germ infestation.

If you could spare some positive vibes and send them our way, I'd appreciate it. :)

And p.s. My sister is going to be on Studio 5 tomorrow and she's announcing a pretty awesome giveaway. Check it out at 11 on channel 5 (if you're in Utah that is...) And if you're not in Utah, you can still enter her giveaway on her blog. It's going to be a good one.

Sickly-grammed

After 23 years of living and avoiding strep throat, it finally caught up with me. It started Sunday with a scratchy throat. Monday Morning, I thought death was at my doorstep. I woke up unable to breathe because my throat was so swollen. I had a husband who had just gotten off the 12 hour graveyard shift and two screaming children. Josh was able to help me for about 20 minutes, but he had to go to sleep. So, I did what any mature, capable mother would do. I called my 17 year old sister and begged her (while sobbing) to take a day off of school and come help me. Not only did she come, but my mom came too. They took care of the girls while I went to the doctor, they did my dishes, swept my floors, fed the girls and kept them entertained for hours. I can be pretty prideful when it comes to my girls and I don't like asking for help. I've only done it a handful of times, so you know when I do (especially when I'm literally crying while asking) it's a big deal. I'm so, so grateful to live close enough to my family (both sides) and that they are able and willing to miss work and school to help me out. They were lifesavers. After some Chamomile tea, 4 antibiotic pills, countless ibuprofen pills and an Italian soda lovingly made by my next door neighbor, I started to feel great. Now, I just feel like I have a cold so I'm very grateful for that. I know strep is bad, but maybe it's kind of like the chicken pox and it gets worse if you get it as an adult? Either that or I'm just a wuss, because it seeeeriously whipped me out. But never fear, I'm am feeling much, much better.

And because I mentioned in my last post that I recently became an instagrammer, here's a little preview of some of our every day moments in our house. I think that's why I like instagram so much. I don't have to lug around my huge camera (or even my little point and shoot) all of the time. I'm able to sneakily grab my iPod and snap a picture without the girls noticing. So, without further ado, here's some of the first batch of instagram photos that will be appearing on this blog. :)

Here's to a happy, healthy rest of the week!

Favorites from the weekend

This weekend has been yucky. All 4 of us have been sick and we've been constantly hanging out in our pj's and diapers. Saturday was quite possibly the most frustrating day I've had with the girls ever. They both wanted to be held constantly, wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, and cried a lot. We've got medicine for them and that helped a little, but all 3 of us were miserable.
However, I was able to get a few cute pictures when they were all hopped up on meds.

I love this last one. They're becoming such little buddies.

Sick baby and some links

Having a sick baby is no fun. I say baby, not babies, because Lillian is doing much better. Sophie on the other hand, is still pretty beat. She was sitting on the floor, surrounded by toys for about 10 minutes and she didn't touch anything. She just sat and stared at the floor. I've been working on my paper for school (5 pages...not too big, but still big enough to say 'shoot me now') and I wasn't doing the best job at paying attention to them. When I looked over, she made eye contact with me and started bawling. It was so adorably sad. She's now sitting on my lap and isn't even trying to grab the keyboard. Poor kid needs to get better.

Anyway, I have 3 links I want to share. The first one is a link to the cloth diapering channel on youtube. I know I've written a lot about my experience, but sometimes it's nice to watch someone talk about it, know what I mean? There's general information, reviews, and tips from several moms. Check it out if you're interested.

The next link is for anyone out there who has ever felt a smidge of guilt over formula feeding. I love it because it's not anti-breast feeding. In fact, I got it from a super crunchy/eco-friendly/cloth diaper/herb loving/breastfeeding blogger I follow. I love it. The author even mentions the stress of having twins and drying up. Yep, love it. The author's wife is a breastfeeding advocate who formula feeds. The language is a bit more colorful than the content of this blog (but really, it's nothing too shocking, promise) and there's a picture of a baby breastfeeding, so if that offends you, don't read it BUT I love it. It basically tells people to stay out of each others business when it comes to what you feed your child (I would extend that to many, if not all aspects of birth and parenting). If you're interested, click here.

The last link is from my sister's blog. She's an interior designer and is awesome. Check out her latest project (still in progress) here.

And I really do have a post ready to go. It's just missing a picture that I need to take. In order to take it, I must first shower (Yes, it will be of me. Shocking, I know), but before that, I need to get my paper done (or knock off at least another page) and I have to feed the babies. I should probably feed myself somewhere in there too... I'll try to get it up soon. For now, I might postpone all of it for a few minutes and go cuddle my sad little Sophie.

The good, the bad and the ugly

The Good:

-We were given an old pick up from Josh's aunt and uncle yesterday. I'm thrilled. Josh is going to drive this to work and that means I have a car available during the day! We've been sharing a car since October 2009 and although, we've made it work, I'm very happy I wont be cooped up inside all day every day anymore.

-I turned in an assignment last night with minutes to spare. When I was actually going to school via a classroom, I didn't get as much of a sense of accomplishment as I do now. Turing things in is as good as gold in my book.

-We went to the homecoming talk of my friend, Sarah, on Sunday. It was good too see friends I haven't seen in months (and years).

The Bad:

-I'm the only one in our house who isn't sick. The Josh and the babies woke up with a runny noses and coughs on Saturday. I'm assuming I'll get it eventually since it hasn't stopped me from kissing all 3 of them, but I'm hoping  my awesome immune system (and I'm not saying that sarcastically, it really is great) wont let me down.

The Ugly:

-The amount of snot that comes out of the babies noses. I can deal with gross stuff usually, but snotty noses do me in every time.

And because it's funny, this is how the girls feels about peas.
