I've never been brave enough to let the girls feed themselves with spoons. I've been too afraid of the mess. Consequently, they don't eat from spoons very often. When we first started solids, they didn't like to be spoon fed, which is why we dabbled into baby led weaning. The girls have always liked to feed themselves. Well, imagine my surprise when Josh was eating a snack pack and Sophie grabbed a spoon from off the table and started dipping into the pudding and eating it. I decided then that we should just let them try to feed themselves. I thought of the things we could put in a bowl... apple sauce, cereal, yogurt, etc, but knew that now that she had tasted pudding, that's all she would want. So, like any good mother, I got stripped the girls down, buckled them into their high chairs and handed them each a snack pack and a spoon. Here's what happened. Be prepared for a messy photobomb!

At least most of that excessive sugar ended up on their skin and not in their mouths.... Right? I never wanted Atticus to use a spoon either, but then I was chastised by our developmental therapist that told me he needs to be practicing for his hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. So then I just braved the mess and bought better bibs.

ReplyDeleteThat is exactly what would happen if I gave my 1 year old a snack pack. He seriously cannot eat anything without getting it on his face, hands, tummy & hair. I think you've got two chocolate lovers on your hands!
ReplyDeleteYup, I'm totally with you! I HATE the learning to eat with utensils phase. It seems like every time you let them they then end up in the tub. Dont worry, it does get better though!Nuby toddler spoons are my favorite for less mess just FYI.

ReplyDeleteI think the most disturbing (or something) thing is the first individual shot (I don't claim to know which little lady it is). There is no way of knowing where the snot line and the pudding line begin or end.
