A kitchen of our own

We are really buying a house. I can't believe it. We walked through it yesterday and were a little disappointed on the lack of progress its made, but it's our home nonetheless.

Wanna see the kitchen?

Maybe someday I'll learn to cook. That will most likely happen, but I am certain I'll never learn to love cooking.
And yes, Josh completely smacks his head on the ceiling fan. Heck, I almost do and I'm only 5'7. There's no way that a 6'5 man person can walk under it. Don't worry, we'll figure something out. Wanna see a ceiling that Josh can't smack his head on?

I am in love. It's a home. It's our home.
One with ample amount of natural light, beautiful views (I would show you, but I don't want you to know exactly where we live. If you're curious...come on over!) and a cozy little yard that's ours (except for right now it's a cozy little pile of rocks and dirt).
I get giddy when I think about it.
I am so excited.

And because I know you people want to see pictures of the girls, here you go.

They stayed like this for a surprisingly long time. I'd say it was at least a minute and a half before Lillian got  upset.

Change is hard.

Here's the thing. I don't like change. Not even a little bit. I've been pretty quiet about my feelings relating to our October move, because I know I shouldn't complain and I know I should be grateful for the opportunities we've had, but the truth is that sometimes I REALLY want to go back to Logan. I miss brasc. I miss USU. I miss our old ward. I miss brasc. I miss Fredrico's. I miss the tiny mall. I miss recognizing somewhere almost everywhere I go. I miss brasc. I miss the girls' old pediatrician. I miss brasc (have I said that enough?).

As much as I love the Salt Lake valley and as much as I'm used to living here, sometimes I really, really do miss Logan. Mostly I miss BRASC. I miss my co-workers and I really miss the participants. I watched Up Syndrome the other day and it left me longing for my buds at the work-site (if you work at brasc, you should know who I'm quoting..) Last night, we drove by the emergency room and I saw the life-flight helicopter and thought of a particular friend. (Again, you should know who I'm talking about. Oddly enough, it's the same person.) Anytime I see pepper jack cheese, flip through the tv and see Barney or catch myself saying "chill the lill" to one of the girls, I miss it.

I recently got a new phone and after several days of trying to get it activated, I'm ready to transfer all my contacts over from my old phone. I'm too scared to do it though. Why? Because I know there are dozens of numbers I simply don't need anymore. Numbers of parents and staff that I'll never need to call. Numbers of old visiting teachers that are useless. Numbers of class members that I'll never meet up with for another project.
Stupid, right? Why can't I just delete these numbers and be ok with it? I haven't been to class since last May (ok, I'll admit, not erasing those numbers is just laziness) and I haven't worked since July.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

At least someone else admits that change is hard.

And I don't want to be a total Debbie Downer today, so here's a few pictures of my beautiful baby girls. Oh, and we started solids on their half birthday.
That post is almost done and will be published shortly.

I've been looking at a lot of photography with muted colors lately, so I thought I'd edit some accordingly. I kinda like it... a lot.

Melted nipple and some other stuff

This is what a melted nipple looks like. Yes, it smelled awful and yes, it's a newborn flow. We're going on 6 months and more times than not, the babies drink from newborn bottles. We've also decided to hold off on solids for another month. What can we say? We want these girls to stay babies forever.

In other news, our family is happy for 3 reasons.
1. Uncle Sam was very kind to us {thanks to me for growing two babies} so this year's tax return was quite heftier than years past. Because of this, Josh gets a new guitar and I get a new camera lens. Yahoo!

2. Josh got a new job. I'm SO happy. Although it wasn't our first pick, he'll get paid what he deserves, have legit benefits, and the days of apartment living are coming to an end {hopefully} within the year!

3. I've lost a few pounds in the past couple of weeks! My post baby belly is not the prettiest sight in the world (although, I realize it could be MUCH worse. I'm lucky and got minimal stretch marks) but it's getting better. Thank you, cheesy ab videos on Netflix.

The girls were thrilled when we told them all of our awesome news. Sophie busted out her rad cheerleader moves.

And finally, it's my brother's birthday. He's cool and you should be his friend.

I'm the grumpy kid in the sheep shirt {LOVED that shirt by the way. Also, check out Brooke's awesome socks.}. I found this picture in an album at my grandparent's house last September when we went on this adventure. {Can someone please send us back?}

Happy birthday, Jason!

One baby at a time

Sometimes, I like to pretend I have one baby instead of two. I usually am not strict during the day to keep them on the same schedule because when one is asleep and one is awake I can give the awake baby the attention she really deserves. Being home alone with both of them all day gets a little crazy and sometimes the non-crying baby gets a little neglected. So when I can, I like to play or cuddle with just one baby.

This is probably my only complaint about having twins (well this and getting cross examined during every public outing). I am completely outnumbered during the day. Josh is working/commuting about 10 hours each day so that leaves me with LOTS of baby time. I don't mind it of course, but I'll admit, I get cabin fever frequently {I can't wait for spring/summer. We've got a playground and a swimming pool at our apartment!} and like I said, I don't feel like I can give the babies the attention they individually need. I guess it's not a bad thing though, since I've always heard that twins never have the 'first child syndrome'. They obviously don't get as jealous when a second sibling comes a long because they were never an only child. I'm sure every mom of 2+ kids feels a little torn between giving equal amounts of time between their kids, but sometimes I wish I knew what it was like to only have one. Maybe I sound awful for saying that, but like I said, I feel like the non-crying baby doesn't get any attention. Hopefully within the next few months they actually start playing with each other instead of just starting and giggling (don't get me wrong, I love that. That's my favorite thing about twins so far actually).

Until then, I'll continue to soak up my 'mom and Lillian time' and 'mom and Sophie time'.

(I recently cut about 4 inches of nasty, nasty bleached hair. I didn't realize how dark my natural hair color really was. It's light brown!)

(Did I mention that I'm constantly tired? And I realize how unflattering this picture is, but Josh took it a few mornings back and I think it's adorable.)

Books

We're trying to get Lillian to like them so we took her (well, technically them) to the library. Wanna know the best part? We happened to place her next to the 'banned book' section and under the encyclopedia of drugs and alcohol.

We just want her to be cultured.

A list of happenings and thoughts

  • We no longer live in Logan.
  • I was recently reminded of how much I hate change.
  • We are planning on staying in this apartment until we are ready to buy a house.
  • I haven't read any blogs in almost a week and although it drove me nuts, I survived.
  • I hate not knowing where anything is (in and out of my apartment).
  • I'm pretty sure I'm closing the door on the lactation department and don't feel bad about it.
  • I'm amazed at how great our friends are. (In Logan and the rest of the state)
  • I didn't realize how sad people in our ward would be to see our babies leave.
  • To say we LOVE our new apartment is an understatement.
  • We're looking forward to being closer to family and our SLC/UT country friends.
  • The babies continue to be adorable.
and....
  • I don't think I understand Glee.
Yep, that's what on my mind. And here's a picture of my beautiful baby girls.
